The beautiful wide brimmed 1940s hat features a flat-topped crown with straight sides, similar to a boater hat, but with a wider brim. The brim can turned down in the front for a touch of drama. A black grosgrain ribbon encircles the base of the crown.
The hat is made of black wool felt and has two labels, one from the “May Company, Los Angeles,” and one that says “New York Creation, Adjustable.” There is a stamp in the crown which is not readable.
The May Department Stores Company was a prominent American department store holding company, founded in 1877 with branches throughout the country. It was acquired by Federated Department Stores (now Macy's, Inc.) in 2005. They were known for their high quality items.
This hat is no exception. The felt is gorgeous. The hat is stiff and holding its shape. The wide grosgrain ribbon is in lovely shape and has no imperfections (just slight fray on the ends.)
The hat has no fading, moth chews, holes or other issues save the worn off stamp. I am rating this hat as being in EXCELLENT minus condition.
SIZE: 21” circumference.
